May 12 Sun morn 12:40am - Occultation of a R=12.3 Star by 2000UY21 from Rodeo Gulch, just south of Karl too. Maybe a movie night at Karl's Sat night, followed by asteroid hunting on the way home? 0.5s duration, Alt=23 Az=140 Ophiuchus. Planning page.

May 14 Tue eve 9:13pm - Occultation of a 12.0 star by asteroid Thule. Special value, to be reported to an astronomer with special interest in this event. Wide path, good rank, long 5.0s duration, alt=46, az=263. I must be at Cabrillo helping students finish photo project, will get it from Cabrillo outside the classroom. Aug 1 - Thur 4:38am - Occultation of a 16.1 (15.4 combined) by Trojan Asteroid Alcathous. from SC, SC Mtns, and MIRA too. High rank, alt=69. ~no moon. Should be do-able in dark conditions with enough integration. May require travel to dark sites, and I will ask about MIRA time. Planning page.

Aug 5 -Tour de Big Bear, part of California Pass Challenge (w/ Mammoth Gran Fondo)

Aug 23 - Fri 1am - Occultation of a 14.9 star by Trojan asteroid (1867) Deiphobus, from xx. alt=69, drop=0.9mag (or 0.5mag because target is a very tight binary with another ~14.7 star so blend could be 13.9->14.5 for 10s max), 82% moon 30 deg away so sky brightness a problem. CabObs 12"? remove f/3.3 to reduce sky? CabObs on 1-sigma line odds=14%. odds=64% on Stockton centerline. Sky brightness is a killer. Probably stay home and try from 12" Cabrillo is best shot. Today is required NAS Fall Division Day. Cannot do big trip anyway.

Aug 30 - Fri 4am - Graze of 5.9 Omega Cancri, from San Juan Bautista area on rising 10- moon on dark limb. Should be a very photogenic opportunity with video.

Sep 13 Fri - deadline for submitting reject/accept retirement incentive for faculty.

Sept 14 Sat morn 2:15am - Occultation of a 10.9 star by binary asteroid Arecibo. Similar path to our Didymus Mojave Desert Amboy trip. But, 78% and 89%+ moon weekend, not good for astro 25. Planning page

Sept 16 Mon 2am - Occultation of 11.1 by Pauly, looks roughly near Pinnacles?
Sept 16 Mon 5:20amm - Occultation of a 10.1 by (51103) 2000HX12 from Sacto area. gradual light curve predicted

Sept 17 Tue 4am - Occultation of Saturn on 99+ moon in dark sky. High power video should look great; 12" scope?

Sept 17 - Partial lunar eclipse at moonrise.

Sept 22 Sunday morn 3am - Plieades Occultation, including Alcyone, and 7.6 mag dark limb graze but nowhere camp-able. Moonrise is just after 10pm which is not acceptable for late night astronomy, so I'll make Astro 25 a week later.

Sept 25 Wed eve 9pm - Occultation of a 11.4 star by NEA Florence, from San Diego to Boulder, NV. High value, bright. Florence has 2 moons of about 0.25km size

Sept 27-29: Astro 25 in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Astro highlight is the occultation by 2000AP243 of a 12.0 mag star. Sept 28 Sat eve 8pm - Occultation of a 12.0 Star by 2000AP243, from Trail of 100 Giants. Duration 0.7s. IOTA event detail predictions. Red Meadow cmpg is inside northern limit. 22 alt Az=223. Path is 15.5 latitude arcmin wide, and southern limit is north of Kernville, northern limit is south of Quaking Aspen cmpg, but Long Meadow and Red Meadow are well inside the northern limit. moon 9- predawn. Google Earth shows trees at the campgrounds were saved from the fires of years ago.

Oct 5 Sat eve - 10%+ moon 4 deg from Venus which is 0.7 deg from Beta Librae binary, eve sky.

Oct 22 - 6:30am - Graze of 5.3 sun=-11, 8N 68- moon (49 Aurigae) from Moss Landing

Oct 25 - Fri 3:55am - Occultation of J=15.0 star by Trojan Asteroid Mentor. Centerline over MIRA with 52% odds, 39% odds from Santa Cruz near northern limit. 39 alt, 7s duration. 39% moon far away. This looks like a good MIRA oppotunity which makes the weekend of Oct 25-27 a bad choice for Astro 25.

Nov 16/17 - Full moon occultation of the Plieades. Weekend.

Nov 19 Tue eve 9pm - Occultation of 11.3 star by NEA Florence, through Santa Cruz. High value, bright. Florence has 2 moons of about 0.25km size. Have to try from Cabrillo Observatory.
